Sometimes, it's worth it to skip the big city and head for the smaller towns instead. I spent a quick night in Trnava, Slovakia recently and really enjoyed the small, but charming town. Trnava is about 50 km northeast of Bratislava and is referred to as Little Rome because of the large number of churches throughout the town (further evidenced by the large number of nuns I spotted walking around town).
