Three Easy Steps to Look Natural in Front of the Camera

I’m so excited to share photos from Stephanie and Andy’s gorgeous Budapest portrait session. These two are a great example of how to look natural in photos. From the start, we talked about what they were looking for in their portrait session. I asked them what kind of vibe they were going for — Romantic? Fun? Something else? They let me know that they wanted a romantic, architecturally stunning location and that they would bring the fun. (Yes!)

Open communication is the first step to looking natural in your photos. Every person, couple, and group has a “vibe.” Communicate what yours is to your photographer so you can both be on the same page from the get go. Whether we discuss it in advance or not, I always try to follow my subjects’ vibe and let that lead the shoot.

So, now that you have your vibe figured out and have talked about it with your photographer, what else can you do to look like you in your photos? It’s really as simple as being yourself. Dress the way you feel best, not the way Instagram or Pinterest may tell you you should dress. Instagram and Pinterest are great resources for getting ideas, but wearing something you feel uncomfortable in (no matter how trendy it might be) will never look natural in photos.

Now that you’ve got your incredible outfit put together that makes you feel like your best self, the rest is easy. Trust your photographer, be yourself, relax, and enjoy your photo shoot!
